p0tat0es: (welcome to the terrordome)
I posted this meem two years ago today. Gonna do it again. 'Sposed to tag seven of you to do it, but whatever. Everybody dance!

Post seven pieces of music you are into right now. No matter the genre, lyrics or no, they must simply be songs or music you're enjoying now. Post these instructions in your blog along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to find out what they are listening to.

Mulatu Astatke - "Yègellé Tezeta (My Own Memory)"
This song is featured prominently in that "Broken Flowers" movie. I got the Ethiopiques Vol. 4 record, which is all Astatke. Ethio-jazz is the funkiest shit this side of James Brown's casket.

Joe Cocker - "Woman To Woman"
I could have opened for this guy. Chances are he wouldn't have played this song. Please see 2Pac & Dr. Dre's "California Love" for more info.

"Postal Workers Cancelling Stamps at the University of Ghana Post Office"
I never get tired of listening to this. It just about the happiest damn song ever. And it's not even really a song. Cop it here.

Iggy Pop - "Sixteen"
It grooves. I learned "The Passenger" and wanted to try this on for size.

Serge Gainsbourg - "La Horse"
I picked up a 12" single that had this instrumental track on it. Has a cool harpsichord/Henry Mancini-esque guitar thing going on, and a fucking banjo solo. Mon dieu!

Silkworm - "Slow Hands" (live)
Taken from a compilation of live SKWM performances through the years. This is one of the best tracks from Firewater, and Andy Cohen's guitar sounds like a fire breathing spider. I don't know what that means exactly, but it's good.

Katy Perry - "I Kissed A Girl"
What. Shut up. (I'm a sucker for songs with the "Rock & Roll Pt. 2" beat. I actually cannot help myself.)

In addition to the above, the following records have been in rotation:
Genghis Tron - Board Up The House
My Morning Jacket - Evil Urges
Deerhunter - Microcastles
Kings of Leon - Only By The Night
Danger Mouse - The Grey Album
Ice T - O.G. Original Gangster
Kool G Rap & DJ Polo - Road To The Riches

Of Montreal, Marnie Stern, and Lykkie Li are in the holding tank.

Here is how it works: copy this list; leave in the bands you've seen perform live; delete the ones you haven't, and add new ones that you have seen until you reach 25.
