I thugged this list from Karla Anne's journal.
1. What was the first record you owned (bought for you)?
I think my dad (unwittingly) bought me The Great Adventures of Slick Rick. This was before the days of explicit lyric labels.
2. What was the first record you bought?
the Beat Street soundtrack at a garage sale for $0.10. The first record I ever bought in a store was 2 Live Crew As Nasty As They Wanna Be.
3. If you had someone of the opposite sex came over and you wanted to impress them (and shag), which CDs would you hide?
I don't think I'd hide any of them. I would, however, emphasize the Barry White, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, and Isaac Hayes CDs.
4. Is there a song that reminds you of childhood?
Several: "Call Me" by Blondie, "Back In Black" by AC/DC, "Separate Ways" by Journey, "Fish Heads" by Godley & Creme. There are more, I'm sure...
5. If you could spend the night with 5 musical artists, (3 for their minds and 2 for their bodies) who would it be?
Minds: John Zorn, Ian MacKaye, and John Coltrane.
Bodies: Christina Aguilera, Cristina Martinez :)
6. If your life was a movie, what song would play over the following?
Opening Credits: "Garden City Blues" - Silkworm
Love Scenes: "Guns of Brixton" - Joel RL Phelps (I know thematically the song is a weird choice, but hey...)
Sad Scenes: "Loss Leader" - Codeine
Closing Credits: "Christmas Song" - Mogwai
7. What music do you listen to when you're:
Happy: Death Cab For Cutie, Mos Def, Naked City, James Brown, newer Silkworm, etc.
Sad: Codeine, Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Joel Phelps, older Silkworm, Boxhead Ensemble, Black Heart Procession, etc.
Angry: Minor Threat, Unwound, At The Drive-In, godheadSilo/Enemymine, so many to list...
8. Name one artist you would like to see banned:
Just one? Here's my picks: Yanni, Kenny G, Michael Bolton, the Nashville songwriter's clique, Creed!!!!!, most derivitive shite pop white-boy rappin' faux-metal bands on MTV
9. Name one genre you would like to see banned:
It's a toss up between "rap-metal" and ska-core. (Confidential to all y'all ska punx: Contrary to popular belief, Operation Ivy did not invent ska.)
10. Name a song you would never want to be played again:
anything by Creed.
11. What now-defunct band would you most like to see reunite (dead or alive)?
Quicksand, or maybe Six Day Affair ;)
12. Name an album that's perfect all the way through.
Slow Riot For New Zero Kanada - Godspeed You Black Emperor! Granted, it's only 2 songs long, but what songs they are.
13. Guilty Pleasures?
Destiny's Child
14. If there was a fire, which five cds would you try to save?
I wouldn't just try to save five.
15. Is there a song that describes your situation so well that you could've written it?
I'm still writing it. "Shit Luck" by Modest Mouse sums it up pretty nicely.
16. Which underrated artists deserves more attention?
Plexi, Goodness, Cake Like, Cop Shoot Cop, Brad, Satchel, Silkworm. Especially Silkworm.
17. Has a song or an artist changed your life in any way?
Probably.
18. your favorite soundtrack?
Dutch Harbor: Where The Sea Breaks It's Back as played by the Boxhead Ensemble
19. What would your dream band be?
(Funny, this came up not that long ago...)
vox: Barry White
guitar: Andy Cohen
bass: me
drums: the robot drummer from Octant
(This is bullshit - please see my posts from 12/12-13/00 for lots of dream bands.)
20. What is your favorite music video?
Most bands I listen to don't make videos. "Black Steel In The Hour of Chaos" by Public Enemy was pretty bitchin' though.
21. What are your favorite artists?
All of them.
