Oh, and by the way, Thirty Ought Six was one of the best and most underrated local (Portland) emo/hardcore bands ever. They never got the recognition that they deserved, in my opinion. The songwriting was great and the playing was intense (especially the drummer - the guy played like he had 4 arms and was jacked up on speed). They perfected the loud/soft dynamic before it got beaten into the ground by a million other soundalike bands.

So, if you haven't done so, I suggest finding some of their CDs (well, there were only ever 2, Bosozoku and Hag Seed). They should be had for relatively cheap, I'd imagine. Guest stars include Jody Bleyle (Team Dresch, Hazel) & Jeremy Enigk (SDRE). Good shiz, that.

I'm with you there.

I've seen Hag Seed in many used bins for around a dollar. Good news for people on the lookout, but a sad indication of just how unappreciated they really were.

Watching them pull off "Governor" live was one of the most jaw-dropping experiences I ever had. And Ryan on the drums.... well, yes to everything you said! He reminded me of the drummer from Karp for those same reasons (seemingly cranked out and playing in fast-motion). All in all, just an amazing band.

1) You get huge props just for knowing who they were.

2) You get huger props for seeing them live, which I never got to do, dammit.

3) I met the drummer from Karp at a bar this last Sunday afternoon.

Hmmm.

Oh, man. I used to go see them a lot, when I was a Satyricon regular. Wasn't their drummer the same guy who was in Sweaty Nipples? Been so long ago, I can't keep it all straight, anymore. Anyway, if not, that guy was a smokin' drummer, too.
