Obligatory show review:
Apr. 8th, 2002 11:31 amWe played at Ye Olde Central Saloon in scenic Pioneer Square last night. A nice surprise was that Steve, the old door guy from the Colourbox (and later Graceland) was dooring at the Central. (Before I turned 21, I would have to usually stand outside of whatever venue I was playing at. My old band played the Colourbox a lot, so Steve kept me company.)
Anyway, the show: Edysin played first. They were pretty tight, had a cool sound, 'cept for after a couple of songs I could hear the murmurs shoot through the crowd: "wow, they kinda sound like Radiohead..." And they sorta did. Good, nonetheless.
The Scene was second up. They didn't sound at all like what I expected. I felt like I was in a John Hughes movie, like I should have been dancing in a high school library. These guys are all good players, 'specially that drummer. He was pretty badass. Not really my bag, but I dug 'em.
Us: All of you that didn't come missed out on me doing my best Kraftwerk "The Model" cover impersonation - red shirt, black pants, black tie. I didn't even wear a tie to my own brother's wedding! Ha! We were the only band playing that didn't have a keyboard. Hmmm...well, I have a sampler, so that sorta fills up the tech quotient. We played pretty hard, did our rock thing. Sean fell down a lot (on purpose). Lot's of posturing and cock rock moves. All in good fun.
Anyway, we're playing again on Friday. More later.
