How cool that you are considering doing library work. It's true you need an MLS to be a librarian, but as someone who barely managed to get her bachelor's, I managed to find work in a library and I actually find it fulfilling. I would not work at this pay rate forever, though, so I'm probably going to bite the bullet and school myself more at some point. Everybody who works here is fun, spunky, brilliant in a non-nerdy way, and well-adjusted. (Imagine that.) Librarians are going to take over the world, and they're not even meek any more. The UW library school just changed its name to the ischool (for information school) 'cause it's more about managing info in all its forms, and the philosophies behind such management, than it is about card catalogs and shushing people.
