News flash:
In other news: Went up to Broadway yesterday (I skipped the parade - I hate crowds) to get food and do a little book shopping. After that, I ran into Jenny, where we went hair dye shopping at Fred Meyer, and back to the hizzouse to watch Twin Falls Idaho, which is a very, very sad little movie. Good, but sad. Go see it.
From there, I stopped at Cafe Vita (formerly the Paradiso)...first time I had been in there since Vita took it over, in fact. It looks so...pristine, especially considering what it used to look like. It's not nearly as dark. The floor upstairs still bounces and vibrates though. I got some kawfee and began reading one of my new books, The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. This is continuing in my recent Holocaust studies, and it's beginning to take a toll on me. I'm reading about Hitler's early years, and the formation of the Nazi Party, and find myself feeling repelled, disgusted, almost nauseous. As much as I play the part of the misanthrope, I cannot imagine being as callous as the Nazis and their supporters. The circumstances surrounding the Third Reich's rise to power were extrordinary - if just a few things had happened differently, the millions of people who died as a result of WWII may have met a very different fate.
Anyway, I found myself reading a Far Side anthology to get my mind off of things. I needed to be cheered up. That helped, a little.
Now I'm at work. Fr joy.
