I bought some CDs yesterday:
Dr. Dre - The Chronic remastered version
Rachid Taha - Made In Medina: Middle Eastern melodies on top of crazy beats
Medeski Martin & Wood - Combustication Remix EP: not for hippies
Squirrel Bait - Skag Heaven: 2nd (and last) record by the best band to come out of Louisville in the mid-80s. Until Slint, anyway. Features Brian McMahan & David Grubbs, I think while they were still in high school.
And I bought some CDs a few days before that:
764-Hero - Weekends Of Sound: I saw John Atkins at the Wallingford QFC yesterday.
Dan The Automator - A Much Better Tomorrow: More hot Kool Keith action.

(Forgive me my misappropriation of the Elliot Smith lyric.)
Sweating it out here at Aurafice. Came up the hill to see if I could find The Other Ed at Machiavelli, but alas, he had already departed. It's now 9:20, Thursday, hot. Trying to decide whether or not I care to brave the bar at Machiavelli a second time; it tends to start accepting refugees from drum 'n' bass nite at the Baltic Room next door about now.
I finally finished the CD reviews I've been sitting on for 3 weeks.
Some recommendations:
Goodness. Tomorrow's Friday. Yesterday felt like Saturday. I'm all discombobulated. I should get some food.
Word to the 3rd.

Some recommendations:
A Quiet Revolution - s/t: They're like a dark, Northern Irish crossbreed of KIDS-era Folk Implosion and Portishead, 'cept no vocals. Very mellow, very cool.
The Incredible Moses Leroy - Electric Pocket Radio: Throw Stevie Wonder, Parliament, Joy Division, Death Cab For Cutie, and the Partridge Family in a blender, add some 60s shlock 'n' roll and a dash of drum 'n' bass, and I think this is what you get. Yowza. Tower has it on sale right now for $10.99. Well worth it, in my opinion.

Jul. 5th, 2001 10:21 pm1) I'd like to be standing at the top of a high bluff right now, arms outstreched, and let the whole fucking world know that I'm on top of it.
2) Slint fucking rules.
3) I am allergic to dust mites and cat saliva. The mites cause me to break out in hives, especially on my hands. Cats just make me sneezy.
4) I had a vision once where some apparently omnipotent being told me that it was my mission to save hip-hop. Still working on that.
5) I am who am. I'm just not that "I Am Who Am".
