Apparently, Washington State grows the largest number of Concord grapes in the country, followed by New York, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Missouri1.

If that's the case, then how come I ain't never seen 'em in a grocery store until last week? I wasn't even sure they were a real type of grape, since the only thing I ever see the name associated with are artificially flavored grape things.

Probably 'cause they're mostly used for juice and jam - they don't really taste very good straight off the vine. I'd rather nibble Pam Grier...

Sure enough: further reading on that website shows that they don't keep well enough for stores, and yeah, they're mostly grown for other uses.

I actually like the way they taste. Maybe it's just the novelty of having them.

Yeah. Now about Pam Grier...
