Ballard ho!

I have just returned from adventuring in deepest darkest Ballard with Chris. First, we hit Hattie's Hat, looking for Diarmuid, who we surprisingly found, although not in the manner we expected. Then we bounced around various places on Old Ballard Ave. till we landed at the Lock & Keel, where we were subjected to all sorts of bullshit on the jukebox, courtesy of the drunken sorority sisters who were deeply involved in a game of Golden Tee with their male suitors.

Making tea and readying myself for the day ahead.

I'm going to rule the world. Just you watch.

You went to Blanchet?! Yeah, I used to hang with Diarmiud, Colin White, that Becca chick, Kristen Parda and I dated Ryan Corley for a while. Anyway, I was hanging with Diarmuid and Colin until I got a mad crush on Diarmuid and scared him away.

Good lord...well, Derm is moving in with his girlfriend (fiancee? I'm not sure what their status is). His girl used to work with beulah at QFC. I still see Bekah (I think that's how she spells it) around every once in a while (I bought one of my basses from her brother). Colin I saw last at the EMP, and I haven't seen Kristen in years...she seemed to be doing this derelict-lesbian-punk-rock thing.

I thought maybe you looked familiar when I saw you at the laser show :)

How crazy! I haven't seen any of those peeps for years. Yeah, last I heard Kristen was cutting off anyone who wasn't a lesbian and living gutter-punk style on Capitol Hill. I miss hanging out at her house- we used to smoke out and sleep on her trampoline.

I don't know if I could look familiar though... Back then I had braces and long, bleached blond hair and dressed like a skater/riot grrrl. I HOPE I am not recognizable from then, at least! Although, Derm and Colin used to always say I totally looked like some girl named Courtney Pop, who I assumed went to Blanchet. But if you ever went to the Ballard Denny's back then, you have definately met me before.

I didn't know Courtney, but I know who she was. And I spent some serious quality time at the Ballard Denny's, but Beth's was where my crew usually kicked it, usually every day, before and after school, sometimes during, and then for about a year after we graduated.

I'm thinking about it, and realizing that this little game of 6 degrees gets really complicated really fast...

where did you go to school?

So, please tell me Courtney was not some freak in the looks department. Colin used to snigger when he said it and Derm would always say NO NO SHE DOESN'T LOOK LIKE COURTNEY- WELL, MAYBE SHE DOES.

Yeah, I shudder to think how much time I used to spend at Denny's. Always right after school until about 10 pm which was my curfew. We did skip class sometimes to go and I was always there on weekends. Gah! Beth's though. That's some hardcore hanging out. I tried to avoid that place- I felt like I would have a coronary from just breathing in there.

Anyway, I went to Ballard and I lived right by Whitman up in Blueridge before we moved to Old Ballard.

You forced me to consult my senior year (1994) yearbook...ehhh...I don't really see how there could have been much of a resemblance. But Colin sniggered about everything, didn't he?

Funny you say that about Beth's - the owner, Larry, just died a few weeks ago. He was in his mid-50s, and smoked like 3 packs a day. In fact, that's where I learned to smoke...

I didn't know too many people who went to Ballard. My stepsister went there for her freshman year before coming to Blanchet.

Scary! Yeah, but now that I think about it, Colin was always acting like that.

Wow, that's to bad about the owner of Beth's. When I was there though, I didn't feel like I even needed to smoke, there was so much already in the air, mingling with the grease.

What's your sister's name? Depending on the year, I might have known her.

Funny, I used to have a little pouch that i wore around my neck just like that kid in the picture...

Alex Strand...she would have been at Ballard '90-'91. I think she might have gone to Whitman too, but I dunno. (We didn't become related until after we graduated high school. Her mom started dating my dad and now they're married. She was a cheerleader and I was a weird punk guy. Her clique and my clique didn't play nicely together :)

Well holy holy shit. I went to (Whitman) Junior High with Derm. I'll bet he's still as quick-witted as he was when we were all 14. (We tested out a tad too many Irish jokes on him back then.) Whatta blast from the past!

Well, he still looks pretty much the same...he's a lot bigger now tho'...not fat, just bigger. I'm trying to think if I knew anyone else that went to Whitman...I dunno. This is weird just talking (typing?) with other people who went to (pre-collegiate) school here. Y'all are hard to find in Seattle.
