I bought a turntable today from Hawthorne Stereo on Roosevelt. It's this oddball Technics with the tonearm built into the lid and a mechanism that moves it across the record like an old word processor. It's tiny. I'm getting some weird white noise out of the right channel, but I don't think it's the table itself that's causing it. I'm just happy that I have something to listen to vinyl on now.
First albums played: AC/DC's High Voltage and Glen Campbell's Witchita Lineman.

Date: 2008-07-17 08:47 pm (UTC)The best thing to do when buying a guitar is to actually go into a guitar shop and pick a few up. Guitars come in different sizes and shapes, so ordering one online won't give you a chance to see if it fits you.
Rondo Music offers inexpensive ($80.00-$300.00 and up), relatively well made guitars. (With brands like Fender/Squier and Gibson/Epiphone, you pay extra for the name). If you are going to order online, Rondo has a pretty good rep.
As far as amplifiers go, some good deals are the Vox AD15VT (small, cheap, lots of different sounds) and the Epiphone Valve Junior (zero bells and whistles, but you'll get a good sound out of it.) If you stick with it and start rocking with a band or something, you'll eventually want to upgrade your gear. But for playing in your bedroom or whatever, these are good choices.
Hope this helps. I can go into more detail next time I see you (if you're still interested :)
