I gots lots to say, but not the energy to say it, so you only get part right now.

Today: Arose at 7:00 AM so that I could attend a orientation for a mandatory Federal program called Worker Profiling Reemployment Service. This occurred in south-central Seattle, an area I'm not all that familiar with. Finally found the place, walked in 10 minutes late (it wasn't even in the room the letter said it was going to be in) and got to sit through a series of brain teasers, speeches, videos, and PowerPoint presentations. I personally can't think of any way I'd rather spend three hours of my day :)

From there it was off to Seattle Central Community College to talk to a lady who has helped the grrrl with the whole unemployment/school thing. (I forgot to add that I got on the wrong bus and ended up walking from the CD to Capitol Hill in the rain. Soaked was I.) Mary was running late, but I finally got to talk with her. The verdict? She thought that I should go into A) health care, or B) carpentry. I said nay to both and asked her what I needed to do to become a librarian. She didn't know off the top of her head, so a phone call later, she had a name and a number of the man I need to talk to. I'll tell you more when I know more.

I got home and responded to a message left for me by my dad. Apparently my brother has some big news for me. I can only guess as to what it is. If it's what I am thinking...eek.

I've had nary a second to catch my breath. I have to leave again soon to go meet the grrrl's fraternal unit for a lesson in the automotive arts.

Yep...supposedly, everyone on unemployment is supposed to go. Federal program, it is.

Interestingly enough, there seems to be a shortage of Human Resources people, right now :).

The library racket is actually pretty hard to get into. It's pretty much run like tenure track academia. You can get in, at a low level, with a Bachelors in something that is sorta research oriented, but you really need an MLS, if you are even contemplating anything career-like.

Roulez! As du volant! Good to have another driver in the Derby. Make sure he teaches ya how to drive on two wheels, all "Cannonball Run"-styley ... nah, bad idea.

Hey! That's my Nico you're talking about him running on two wheels, and I definitely don't think she'd like it!

Actually, she didn't seem to mind too much. :)

How cool that you are considering doing library work.
It's true you need an MLS to be a librarian, but as someone who barely managed to get her bachelor's, I managed to find work in a library and I actually find it fulfilling. I would not work at this pay rate forever, though, so I'm probably going to bite the bullet and school myself more at some point.
Everybody who works here is fun, spunky, brilliant in a non-nerdy way, and well-adjusted. (Imagine that.) Librarians are going to take over the world, and they're not even meek any more. The UW library school just changed its name to the ischool (for information school) 'cause it's more about managing info in all its forms, and the philosophies behind such management, than it is about card catalogs and shushing people.

i was a librarian's assistant in duluth years and years ago... it's a hard thing to get into, but the people i worked with just loved it to pieces. if you want to be a real li-barian, you need a masters in library science, archival science, or the like. but there's a librarianesque sort of job that just involves a few classes and a civil service thinger. at least that's what it was like back then.

If I choose to accept this mission, it would be a program to become a library technician, not a librarian proper. This way I avoid that pesky masters degree thingamabobber.
